Thrive (*not just survive): a range of events for students in London City Gates Church loves students and wants to see them thrive: growing in their love of God, of each other and of the world. We understand that although London can be a vibrant and exciting city, without a community of friends around it can also be pretty darn lonely. At City Gates we welcome you into our church community and love you to get stuck in with everything we do. There are opportunities for you to get to know other students, join a church small group near where you live and have the chance to meet up with someone, usually a recent graduate, who will have time to listen and pray with you. This term there will be loads of Thrive events aimed at welcoming, challenging, provoking and encouraging you to reach your potential. Will you join us?
Thrive lunches: After the service join us for some free, yes free, tucker at a nearby restaurant and to hear more about life at City Gates Church from people who’ve been students in London. [27th October; 4th October; 11th October]
New for 2009-10: Thrive nights: Is the thought of student life stressing you out? Do you wish you knew how to cook a simple meal for your friends without maxing out your loan? Well, help is at hand. Come along every other Sunday evening to Thrive nights in a friendly church member’s home to learn how to cook a simple meal, hear a bit about them, study a bit of the Bible and generally hang out. Feel free to invite friends along too. [18th October; 1st November; 15th November; 29th November]
Thrive Discipleship: Are you up for a challenge? Getting itchy feet on your walk with Jesus? Well, look no further. Rather than making up our own discipleship priorities, we've decided to use Jesus' agenda. Using the Sermon on the Mount to present eight steps of discipleship we will explore Jesus’ call on our lives. Join us fortnightly at 10 am before the service at City Gates Church, in the Strand Palace Hotel. [25th October; 8th November; 22nd November; 6th December]
For Christian Unions: We have speakers available to give talks at your meetings and houseparties. We also have a team of recent graduates who are passionate about seeing students become part of our community and supporting them as they reach out in their universities and colleges. “City Gates has been a great place for me to settle down in a warm community and loving family of Christians despite me being a long way from home. The weekly cell meetings have also helped and encouraged me to focus and lean on God for strength, comfort and whatever else I need in London. The constant support and care I have received from the City Gates has also anchored me firmly in God and increased my desire to serve and glorify him." Hannah (LSE 2006 - present) “I came to London as a student two years ago and was very overwhelmed by the size and busyness of the capital city. So on my first Sunday I came to City Gates because it was the only church I had heard and knew where it was! I found a great bunch of people who where very welcoming and where passionate about creating a God centred community in the middle of London. I have made really good friends in my cell group, learnt more about God and have been challenged about how to live as a Christian. I know that my cell group care for me and if I am not there because the works piling up at Uni they are praying for me. The church as a whole and my cell group have been really supportive of my university’s Christian Union and my role in it. People from City Gates have come to speak at CU and help at events but the most important thing is that they share the same vision of reaching people who do not know Christ. City Gates has helped me as a student because I have learnt more about God which has allowed by faith to grow and because it has given me a life outside Uni.” Ellie (LSE 2006 – present) |
