Prayer

And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.’ (Ephesians 6.18)

City Gates strives to make prayer foundational to every aspect of its life. Rather than being a church that simply runs a ‘prayer ministry’, City Gates wants to be church that is saturated in prayer – whether through words, images, song, movement or silence.

Each Sunday service is preceded by the 10to10 Prayer Meeting. As the name suggests, the gathering starts at 9.50am. It runs until 10.40 and all are welcome to attend anytime during this period. The meeting includes a short time of worship, together with prayer for the day’s service and particular areas of church ministry.

Prayer for individuals is offered at the close of each Sunday meeting. Those in the prayer team – who are trained and trusted church members – are always available to stand alongside others in prayer.

Occasionally, the City Gates initiates special events, including 24/7 prayer rooms, corporate sessions and prayer rotas. For instance, the church recently hosted Three Days of Prayer and Fasting, when members set aside time for intercession and listening to what God was saying to the church. The event, which culminated in a prayer night, was a fruitful time.
