Marriage Enrichment

Each term we have an evening of teaching, discussion and input that lasts 59 minutes; then couples are sent out to complete an exercise together in one of the restaurants, coffee shops and pubs of the West End. We meet at the Living Room in Green's Court at 7pm, and leave about 8pm. Topics covered include: separating from family of origin; living in agreement; emotional process; communication; developing intimacy. This is led by Barney and Shirley.

We have a book that we like to recommend to people: Wallerstein and Blakeslee's "The Good Marriage: How and Why Love Lasts" (Warner, 1996). They interviewed 50 couples who had successful marriages lasting from ten to 40 years, and then interviewed them again two years later. In the book they outline nine important tasks for the successful marriage, and describe a number of marriage types. A very helpful book!
